Created by Orin Swift Cellars mastermind, David Phinney, the 2011 “E1” Red by his Locations Wine label is an experience to behold. Moderately priced between $15-20 depending on where you’re able to purchase it (I made mine from Seventh Street Wine), the E1 takes varietals from such regions as Rioja (Tempranillo), Priorat (Grenache) and Ribera del Ruero (Carignan), combining them into quite a zesty, full-bodied wine that’s bursting with flavor.
With a rich entry, the E1 explodes by the time it reaches your mid-palate, where you will taste black current and boysenberries. The soft tannins in the wine, not only make E1 ready to drink, but you will enjoy a nice, long, lingering finish.
From the moment you place your lips for that first sip, you’ll understand why this Spanish red blend is becoming another great find from Phinney’s array of fine wines. Whether you’re looking to dine on steak, a flatbread pizza or just enjoy a couple of glasses, the Locations 2011 E1 Red not only captures the heritage of great Spanish producers but Phinney’s own dynamic style of making wine that’s unmatched.
